Abstracts by Nature

My walk in the woods today was nothing but eye candy. The township had taken out some damaged trees, and the exposed stumps were incredible. I would have paid a pretty penny for a few decent slices of the most colorful box elder. It doesn't seem natural that wood can turn so many different colors, but there it is, lovely proof of nature's artistic talents.

Colorful wood slices and matching shotgun shell.

Hinges or fasteners of some type in bonfire residue.

Wormsign.

Ant tunnels and amazing colors in a Box Elder stump.

Some slices I took home to play around with.

I'd like to try and paint something this interesting,.

More stumps.
How about that teal or aquamarine next to the garnet color?

And the best fungus I've found yet. Moth-like colors.
Thanks for coming on my walk with me.

  6. I so love these slabs of wood!!!! You are a creature after my own heart! I have decided that the perfect coffee table would be a large slab of wood, preferably from a Siamese tree, where you can see the rings and all the beautiful colours!!!
Have you ever seen sumac wood - the most gorgeous greeny gold, fit to drool over...
