So, maybe I took 549 pictures yesterday, just in my little yard, but it's the viburnum's fault, for being so enchanting. I also blame the incredible quality of light in the woods in the morning, and the glowing magic light as the sun was setting too. I was so intent on trying to capture the light, color and patterns that I almost forgot to smell. Oh my. I breathed so deep and long I got dizzy. Crunchy fall leaves, earthy brown smells, colors in every shade - I took pictures morning and evening until my hands were numb. I'm making some DVD's for my mom and a certain leaf loving friend in California so I have a little excuse besides my insanity for all this excess.
These few selections are just from yesterday, just the viburnums, just one variety of the four I have in my yard. Don't even get me started on the Bradford Pear.......

Fall is my favorite season because of all the shades in color that play out. Your photos showed this and more!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors. My fave photos are last two above. The color really popped here in GA last week. I found myself talking to a tree today as I drove by it--telling it how gorgeous it "bloomed" this fall. Lots of yellows and golds past few days.
ReplyDeleteBTW I never read Whiskey Militia's manifesto. Writing is funny but a little over the line when they describe the clothes. When I order something it states, Thanks and tell your mom hi!
HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT MONDAY!!!!!!! Hope you don't have to drive far. It is goi9ng to be so great!!!
My Bradford pear often makes leaves which look like the Virgin of Guadalupe without the Virgin when they drop.
ReplyDeleteI walk around and look for those special ones.
Ellen - I'm torn between Spring and Fall, they are both so lovely.
ReplyDeleteMichelle - I talk to the trees too, I tell the leaves that I snap that they are stunning, and they look fabulous! Thanks for the well wishes, I can't wait to actually start, it's been forever since I interviewed and 2 weeks since I got the job. Schools move slowly. It's about a 25 minute drive, which is more than I'd hoped, but my last job was an hour each way, so I'm not complaining!
Ms. Moon - I'll be looking for the missing virgins and thinking about you doing the same.
Gasp! Beautiful pictures, I love the first one, and the last especially. But they are all indicative of the season...
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE fall. I have windows open when most people would have the heat on! And those leaves, especially the last one -- fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIt must have taken me forty years to love fall. I kind of wanted to, but it was too associated with going back to school for me to really give in. And I like school just fine. I just liked not being in school better. 41 Viburnums? Are you kidding me? I've got one. But it's a winter bloomer. Oh and thanks so much for visiting me!
ReplyDeleteLori and Murr, thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI have dozens of pretty leaves pressed to take closeup, backlit pictures - I never know what kind of abstract magic will happen.
I don't know how many viburnums are on my little patch of woods, but I know there are dozens, two or three types, and we landscaped the edge of the yard with about a dozen of two other types that have different colors and changing times. Once all the big trees have lost most their leaves, it's the viburnum's turn to shine. The funny thing is, I lived here almost a decade before I really noticed the show they were putting on. I'm learning to pay better attention now.
I share your madness. If the master painter Nature can make each leaf so unique, the least we can do is to admire them. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Mel. You really have a knack for photography.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your comments over at mine.
You are loved.

Hi Mel
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to catch up again. I too have been spending lots of time outdoors with my camera but not because its autumn...because it's not...
My walk this morning was a hot 29C but I leisurely photographed tiny plants trying to use more of my camera's functions...I don't feel like I am getting far though.
I think nature's palette is amazing...everyday I spot something new and natural...little blessings...
happy days
549 photos, huh! I don't feel nearly so bad now... Someone out there goes even more hog wild than I do...
ReplyDeleteI love that last leaf!!
I had not thought to bring the leaves in and press them! I have only been capturing them outside, mostly curled up, and the light entirely natural!
Tonight, I saw the moon reflected in the stream, and was trying to capture that. I don't think I was successful :-(
Oh my gosh -- these are amazing!!! I hadn't stopped by here in far too long.
ReplyDeleteI made one of your pictures (the multi-colored leaf up there) my laptop background. Thank you!
