Stormy Weather

Some storms are unwelcome, but this one was not.
It was a beauty.

A wall of clouds came at us so fast I barely got the camera in time.

It was a matter of minutes before the winds gusted to 60 miles per hour.
The temperature dropped 20 degrees which was a blessing.
We don't usually see this many 100+ degree days in June.

Then the rain came. Glorious rain. It's been weeks since we saw rain.
The grass is dead, the lilacs and hydrangeas wilted.
Everything is desperate for rain.

We only got 1/4 inch, but there is another storm on the way.
I couldn't be happier about bad weather.

And happy to have something make me want to pick up the camera.
These are the first pictures I've taken in almost a month.
Two record dry spells broken in one weather front.

Hope your weather is good to you too.

Apologies to Billy and Lena, but Etta's version is my favorite.

  1. Spectacular pictures, Mel. Thanks for dashing for the camera.

Nothing but rain and gray clouds here. Perhaps Summer has moved over a jog and will now be, July - August - September. One can hope.

Love the beautiful moth header, it's magical!

  3. I love the new header. And boy, do I understand that deep-bone desire for rain. It is such a miracle when it finally arrives.

  4. Birdie, it's a newly emerged female luna moth. I had to hold her for just a minute.

  8. Amazing sky photos!
I chuckled over the Stripes reference in your last post. Brought back memories of working in a movie theater when that came out and my coworkers and I knew every word.
Hope you are enjoying a peaceful summer!

  9. Our area needed rain, too, though the humidity it brings is horrible. Still so very thankful for it!

  10. I really love your new header!! I have never seen a luna moth in the flesh, so I am amazed at the size!!
Your storm photos are gorgeous!! We are having a long, hot dry spell here, too, so I know what you are talking about. We really need one of those rains that drips gently down, for a couple of days, steady!
