A dry spell

It's been pretty dry here. For blogging and the weather. The news said this is the driest summer in 30 years for the Chicago area. Hot and dry. Add summer laziness and post surgical laziness and physical limitations and you get a bunch of nothing. I've barely been keeping up with my emails, let alone blogging. Don't even mention housework. I can't tell you what I've done with the last few weeks except drive my youngest to volleyball camps and practices, to try to sleep and eat well, and not overdo anything.

My Dove Chocolate wrapper told me it's OK to slow down. I put it on the fridge for a reminder. I love you, Dove Chocolates.

I have done one fun thing this summer, something both old and new. Daughter thought she'd give beach volleyball a try, and the tournaments are downtown on the lakefront and so far it's been a blast, except for long walks on the sand carrying crap on my out of shape legs, but I'm not complaining. Beats the heck out of sitting in a loud metal box all weekend watching indoor volleyball.

Sunshine, water, blue skies, dozens of happy girls playing hard and having fun, a sun shade, a cooler full of drinks, and great, healthy food. Maybe even a little wine.

What more could I ask of a summer?

Here's what we've been watching:

What a perfect day.

The yellow cabana on the left is us. Prime real estate.

She's learned a very important lesson - keep your mouth closed when diving in the sand.

That's daughter to the left of the coolest coach on the planet.

She's pretty good for a beginner.

A beach on the edge of a city. With cool fresh water for swimming. Pretty nice.

I'd have sat around watching tv all month, so I'm grateful my family found an adventure for me.

I missed Lake Michigan.

Hope you're having some adventures of your own, something scenic, sunny and fun.

  1. I have always admired people who play volleyball. That thing is like a magnet and always hits me in the face, knocking my glasses off.

Yes, listen to the chocolate wrapper. And eat chocolate!

  9. Glad you are recovering. My adventures are not nearly as much fun... Major allergic reaction to wild parsnip...

  10. I hope the Dove chocolate was talking about life in general and not admonishing you about scarfing it down! Why do I always take things personally? Rest up. And I hope you get some nice non-sunny fun, too. It's underrated.

  11. The cabana looks like a prime spot. Diving into the sand not so much. So says the old and cranky nearly 60-yr-old me.
    The daughter is a beauty.
    So is your blog.
