It's my birthday. I got lots of lovely wishes, facebook messages, texts and emails today, which I appreciate greatly. It's so nice to be known and loved, it's the best gift of all, especially after 54 Birthdays. I don't need or want a thing that money can buy.
Today's plan involves not doing chores - cooking, cleaning, laundry, even though my house could really use a going over. Maybe tomorrow.
I'll tell you what else I don't want or need. I don't want to know how to Kill a wild pig with a knife, plus 407 More Essential Skills, which was the message line on one of today's emails. That head scratcher came courtesy of an Outdoor Life Magazine email and I can't figure out how I made that distribution list.
No sale, wrong demographic. I'm way past wanting to be the Total Outdoorsman. That was lifetimes ago. But seriously, 407 Skills and they try to hook me with kill a pig with a knife? Skin a deer with a golf ball? The obvious question being who ends up in a survival situation with no knife but a golf ball? I question the likelihood of that scenario. Why put that tip on the same ad line as calculating shots with a computer? Say What??
Here's a piece of the email. If you're inclined, hurry, the offer expires in 3 days!!!

Hunt better & bag more game – Use a computer to calculate shot range... Kill a wild pig with a knife... Skin a deer with a golf ball... and more!
How to read a bear's mind? What??
I also don't want to meet Christian Singles, Over 50 Singles, Black Singles or any Singles, at all. None. Period. I'm not looking. And yet Yahoo lets one spam dating email a day through, and runs ads in my sidebar, with photos, just in case I change my mind. My husband still looks pretty good and he adores me, and I adore him, so their sales efforts are wasted.
I don't want that mystery career where all I do is cash overseas checks and earn $75-150,000 per year. That's not a career, that's a criminal activity.
I don't want a sale flyer ad from anywhere I've ever bought anything online, begging me to buy more! Now!
I don't need more anything. Well except some new boots for the neverending winter, which I bought on sale today. The checkout girl wanted my email, I said no thanks to that. I don't even explain anymore, I'm trying to let reticence speak for me.
And so on. I'm about to declare email bankruptcy again - I need a day to clean my inbox properly it's so full of junk mails and random crap I do not have time for.
If my phone rings, it better not be that weekly call from someone overseas with a heavy accent alerting me to a serious viral infections of my Microsoft computer. Those people are persistent, and I suspect there's a hundred of those call centers.
Or Disney telling me to PACK MY BAGS!!!
Or Newt Gingrich calling to tell me something I can't even finish listening to.
Or my old Alma Mater calling for donations. Oddly, my son's very expensive college called this winter asking for donations, I almost choked. I'm donating plenty, believe me.
Or a consumer feedback firm wanting to know something-anything about me so they can sell me something I don't know I need.
I really hate the landline, and I'm thinking of getting rid of it, so I can get through the day uninterrupted.
So far today, I"ve already gotten lots of things I wished for, warmer weather, all my meals out with family or friends, a little bargain hunting shopping, and a low key day.
The things I didn't wish for that I got so far are muddy wet dog paws and a few stupid emails.
I have to admit, the How to Kill a Pig message line did make me laugh a little. I also get a chuckle out of the Federal Government Procurement Services firm that wants to sell me seminars, who address all my emails to Mel Torme. How they did that to my last name is a true mystery, but I'm not telling them. Dear Mel Torme, I think it is kind of funny.
And that's good, because that's the only other thing I wish for today, to laugh a little.
I wish that for us all.
